I’m giving any talk of airbrush a rest today as I celebrate my daughter’s 5th birthday. Olivia Cameron Stieglitz, born September 27, 2007, is loving, bright, stubborn often, caring, uncannily fearless, charismatic, and one who definitely marches to the beat of her own drum (and always will, I believe). Oh, I forgot to mention irresistable. I started late in life with children (Sophia is 6), and it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Parenting certainly has its challenges, but the rewards (namely, the most amazing from of love imaginable) and joy are beyond description. In fact, I inform anyone who’s expecting a baby that they’re about to meet the love of their life. Anyway, I toast Olivia for her uniqueness, beauty, and making me one of the luckiest Dad’s on the planet.
Although many airbrush newbies come to the Airbrush Getaway intimidated, they invariably leave inspired, confident, and ready to take on the airbrush World with a new, profitable, and powerful skill-set. Primarily, and simply, they’re intimidated because they believe everyone else will be far more advanced. After they arrive, though, they soon discover that there are many others in the same boat. As I promise at every Airbrush Getaway commencement speech, students should put their blinders on and be completely unconcerned by their neighbor’s progress because by the end of the program everyone ends up in the same place. In fact, the Getaway was originally intended for beginning artists as a way to promote and grow airbrush use.
Pinup greats Armando Huerta and Jon Hul will appear at the upcoming Airbrush Getaway at the NEW Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel, October 8-12. They will paint works in progress, answer questions, and reveal how they render flesh tones and a variety of textures. For more information or to register, please call 800-876-2472 or 732-223-7878 for international callers. www.airbrushaction.com
With a little more than two weeks to go until the Airbrush Getaway (October 8-12, at the NEW Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel), there are still seats available. The Getaway is a terrific airbrush immersion program where you have the opportunity to learn from some of the World’s best talent. We have two hotel rooms left, and you must call Airbrush Action magazine (800-876-2472, 732-223-7878) to reserve them. Alternatively, because of the Trops great location on the strip, there are many other hotels in the area. Please call us to register for the workshops (there are 16 classes!; www.airbrushaction.com) or for more information on classes and hotel options. I look forward to seeing you at the largest and best hands-on airbrush workshop program in the Universe!
Leading up to the Airbrush Getaway, I’m like a thoroughbred at the starting gate; nervous, high-strung, heart racing, even a little scared. The production of a Getaway is an enormous undertaking with some tough logistics that include the shipping of 8,000 to 10, 000 pounds of equipment and supplies, the coordinating of C02 tanks, instructor travel, hotel rooms, set-up, break-down, the demands and committment of keeping the students happy (our #1 priority!), and much more. Ultimately, it’s about maintaining the balance and stability of a monster program. However, barring being with my two young daughters and Anh (the loves of my life), I’m rarely happier than when I’m in the midst of an Airbrush Getaway. It’s actually a form of euphoria for me because I’m in my element with a staff and a group that I love, which is in large part why I adopted the slogan, “Come as students, leave as friends, return as family.” There are 17 days until the Getaway. If you’d like to register, or require information on the World’s largest and best hands-on airbrush immersion program, you may call me personally at 732-233-7007. I look forward to seeing you there!

I read your “State of the Airbrush Union” piece. Nope, print is not dead. Not everything can be had on the internet, son. I’ve always understood the advertising in a magazine is what foots the bill, so you’ve never heard me complain about seeing a lot of ads. The info in Airbrush Action is almost always vital…and just plain fun to look at. The how-tos seem like they appeal to a broad spectrum of airbrush users…from beginners to pros of all kinds. Stay with what you do best. Keep it “visual.” The readers love the photos.
In the current issue, I loved the “Weathered Signage” article by John Hannukaine. FUN stuff!
The issues I receive from Airbrush Action are usually doled out to airbrush enthusiasts here on the island after I’ve read them (though some I keep). A few are beginners, others pros. One is an ex-con. So a lot of readers are seeing your stuff here on the rock, not just me. Sometimes these individuals end up at Airbrush Getaways. And some will end up at Getaways in the future. So, my friend, best of luck going forward. As we say in music, “Straight ahead & strive for tone.” Keep up the good work. Thanks for keeping us all up to speed.
Cheers, Michael Cacy
