With a career spanning over 40 years, Bob Bond originally set out to be an animator, and worked for Boeing Company and ITT as a technical illustrator. In the 1960's he pinstriped a Volkswagen Beetle for a local VW dealer, and a new career was launched. His shop, Bob Bond's Artistry opened in the 1970's in Van Nuys, California, where Bond would customize anything he could get his hands on. His prestigious client list includes Barbara Streisand, George Carlin, James Caan, Andy Griffith, Annette Funicello, Bing Crosby and Sammy Davis Jr. His artwork has been published in Pinstriping Masters and Guide to Pinstriping. Bond has been featured in Hot Rod, Rod Ideas, Van Ideas, Car Craft, Custom Rodder and Juxtapose magazines. For years, he was a feature writer for Sign Business magazine with his Pinlines column, and has written how-to articles for many trade publications. He has airbrushed and lettered over 30 news vehicles for Eyewitness News in Los Angeles, and even pinstriped the original Batmobile. His cars have won awards at numerous shows including 5 Grand National winners at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Most recently, Bond is the publisher and editor of Autoart magazine, a publication dedicated to the art form of customizing.
